Sara Hennessy is an award-winning actor and theatre producer based in Portland, OR. She is a Co-Founder and Ensemble Member of Los Angeles' acclaimed Furious Theatre Company, where she served as Co-Artistic Director from 2001-2010.
After receiving her BA in Theatre from Texas A&M University, Sara moved to Chicago where she studied and performed long-form improvisation at the famed ImprovOlympic and toured colleges with the comedy troupe Freudian Slip. In Chicago she co-starred with eventual Furious Theatre Company co-founders in the sold-out world premiere run of Ramblers by John Boston, which the Chicago Tribune's Chris Jones named "Best Storefront Production of 1998", calling the young cast "a feast of raw talent". She moved to L.A. for the play's Los Angeles Premiere. In L.A., she trained at the renowned classical repertory theatre, A Noise Within, before co-founding Furious Theatre Company in 2001. After an auspicious debut season in a raw warehouse space in Pasadena, the legendary Pasadena Playhouse granted Furious Theatre an ongoing residency at its second stage where the company has produced the majority of its 25 productions.
Recently, Sara played Judith in the rolling US Premiere of Foxfinder at Portland's Artist Repertory Theatre and in Los Angeles at Furious Theatre Company. Other Furious credits include Alina Dobchinsky in Oded Gross' World Premiere Adaptation with Music of Nikolai Gogol's The Government Inspector (a co-production w/Theatre @ Boston Court, LA Weekly Theatre Award Nomination), Pam in the Los Angeles Premiere of Peter Sinn Nachtrieb's Hunter Gatherers (L.A. Drama Critics Circle Award), Sara in the Los Angeles Premiere of Craig Wright's Grace (L.A. Drama Critics Circle Award – Best Production), Laura in the West Coast Premiere of Richard Bean's The God Botherers, Jenny in the Los Angeles Premiere of Neil LaBute's The Shape of Things, Maeve in the U.S. Premiere of Owen McCafferty's Scenes from the Big Picture, Stevie in the U.S. Premiere of Simon Block's Chimps, and Pegeen Mike in the revival of J.M. Synge's The Playboy of the Western World. With other theatres: Thornton Wilder's The Skin of our Teeth, Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, Noel Coward's Hay Fever at A Noise Within; Claire in the World and Los Angeles Premieres of John Boston's Ramblers. She has performed improvisation with Freudian Slip, the Chicago ImprovOlympic team Geneology and in L.A.'s Improv Stunt Show Spectacular. On camera she has appeared in commercials, short films and in Matt Pelfrey's upcoming web series A G.A.N.G. Voiceover work includes the animated series God Squad and Nazca.
Sara directed Furious Theatre's U.S. Premiere of Alex Jones' Noise, which received seven Back Stage Garland Award nominations. Additional production credits include dialect coaching, dramaturgy, costume design and props design.
She is a member of Actors Equity Association.
